US President Donald Trump said that Russian President Vladimir Putin had offered to help him with the Iran situation. However, Trump declined the offer and instead asked Putin to help resolve the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that Putin had called him and asked, "Can I help you with Iran?" to which Trump replied, "No, I don't need help with Iran. I need help with you."

When asked if he would meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the NATO Summit in the Netherlands, Trump said, "Yeah, probably I’ll see him." When asked what he would say to Zelenskyy, Trump responded, “How are you doing?” and added, “He’s in a tough situation. Should’ve never been there.”

After helping to broker a peace deal between Israel and Iran, Donald Trump said he now hopes to do the same to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, which has been going on for three years. He claimed that "6,000 soldiers died last week," highlighting how deadly the conflict has become.

Russia and Ukraine recently restarted direct talks for the first time in over three years. They met in Istanbul on May 16 and June 2. These meetings led to prisoner exchanges and the return of the bodies of fallen soldiers, but there has been no agreement on a ceasefire yet. Ukraine, with the support of Western countries, wants the fighting to stop. But Russia says it is looking for a final solution, not just a temporary pause. Russia is also demanding certain conditions that Ukraine sees as surrendering too much.

In recent weeks, the war has become more intense. Russia has launched some of its biggest airstrikes so far, while Ukraine has carried out surprise drone attacks on Russian airfields. One of these strikes on June 1 badly damaged Russia’s nuclear bomber aircraft.
