Russia launched a huge drone and missile attack on Ukraine overnight, firing a record 479 drones, Ukraine's air force said on Monday. This is one of the biggest attacks since the war began.
The attack hit many parts of Ukraine, including 10 different areas, but no major injuries or deaths were reported. Some buildings were damaged, but there were no mass casualties.
In Rivne, a city in western Ukraine, the mayor, Oleksandr Tretyak, said it was “the largest attack” on the region since the war started.
Ukraine’s air force said they managed to shoot down or stop 460 out of 479 drones and 19 of the 20 missiles fired by Russia. Still, the size of the attack shows that Russia is not interested in stopping the war or joining peace talks, Ukraine said.
The attack comes as Russia increases its strikes across Ukraine. Experts are worried that Ukraine’s air defence systems may not be able to handle such large attacks if they continue.
Meanwhile, Ukraine said it launched its own overnight strike on a Russian electronics factory that makes parts for drones. Russian officials confirmed the factory had to stop work for a while after the attack.
The war has now been going on for more than three years.
