He called Trump the “most genuine and deserving candidate” and described him as a “man of peace” whose actions have saved millions of lives in South Asia and the Middle East. The summit, held on Monday, October 10, in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, focused on signing a ceasefire deal in Gaza, mediated by the United States with the support of Egypt, Qatar, and Turkiye. At the event, Trump spoke about a hopeful future for Gaza and declared that the war there was over. Many world leaders praised him for his role in achieving the ceasefire.
Sharif’s public nomination came just days after Trump was not awarded the Nobel Prize, which went to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado for 2025. Although Nobel Prize nominations are officially submitted through formal letters and not public speeches, Sharif used the platform to express his admiration and reaffirm his support for Trump.
Sharif highlighted that Trump’s intervention during tense moments between India and Pakistan helped prevent a potentially catastrophic escalation between the two nuclear-armed nations. He also emphasised Trump’s contribution to peace in Gaza, calling the ceasefire day “one of the greatest days in contemporary history.” India, however, has rejected Trump’s claims of mediation in the India-Pakistan conflict. The Nobel Prize Committee’s official nomination deadline is January 31 of the award year.
