A protest over immigration raids turned violent on Monday night in downtown Los Angeles. A group of masked people broke into an Apple Store by smashing its windows and stole many products. They also wrote graffiti on the building.
The protest was part of ongoing public anger after the Trump administration started immigration raids on Friday. Several stores were damaged, and police arrested many people as the situation got out of control.
Several videos on social media showed people damaging different stores during the protest, including Adidas outlets, pharmacies, jewellery stores, and marijuana shops. Many of these shops were looted, with shelves completely emptied.
Los Angeles Police Officer Chris Miller said one woman was caught and arrested while trying to rob the Apple Store. According to NBC Los Angeles, two more people were also arrested, but police haven’t shared the total number of arrests from that night.
Earlier over the weekend, police had arrested around 50 people during similar protests. One person was accused of trying to throw a firebomb (Molotov cocktail) at police. LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said some protesters even used powerful fireworks against officers.

Curfew in Los Angeles
After days of protests over immigration raids, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has put a curfew in place for the downtown area. The move comes after peaceful demonstrations turned violent, with people looting stores and clashing with police. The protests began after U.S. immigration officials carried out raids, leading to anger and unrest in the city. Some businesses, like the Apple Store and others, were broken into and damaged.
The Historic Core Business Improvement District asked the city for help, including possibly calling the National Guard. Mayor Bass said on social media that anyone who looted or damaged property will be held responsible. Earlier in the day, many people had gathered at Gloria Molina Grand Park to protest peacefully.
President Trump’s warning
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump warned protesters not to disrupt the upcoming military parade in Washington, D.C., celebrating the Army’s 250th anniversary. He said protesters would be met with “very big force.” Police and Secret Service officers are preparing for large crowds at the event.
