Iran reportedly attacked a US military base in Syria on Monday, according to local media. However, the US has not officially confirmed the news. This report comes a day after the US bombed three nuclear sites in Iran. So far, there are no reports of injuries or deaths from the Iranian strike. The level of damage is also not clear.

Earlier on Monday morning Iran had warned it will respond to recent US airstrikes on its nuclear facilities. At an emergency UN Security Council meeting on Monday (Indian time), Iran's envoy Amir Saeid Iravani called the US strikes a “blatant crime” and said Iran’s armed forces would decide the “timing, nature, and scale” of a response. He also blamed Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu for escalating the conflict and drawing the US into it.

The tension comes after the US launched a military operation on Sunday, targeting Iran’s three key nuclear sites: Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Former President Donald Trump called the operation a “historic moment” in a social media post, urging Iran to agree to end the ongoing conflict. He announced he would address the nation at 10:00 P.M. from the White House.

The bombed sites are crucial to Iran’s nuclear program. Fordow is an underground uranium enrichment facility, while Natanz is a larger plant already damaged earlier by Israeli strikes. The third site, near Isfahan, is believed to store enriched uranium close to weapons grade.

Israel had earlier launched “Operation Rising Lion” on June 13, targeting Iran’s military and nuclear assets, which led to the current escalation.
