Donald Trump has won the 2024 U.S. presidential election, defeating Kamala Harris. After gathering with his supporters in Florida, Trump described this win as the start of “a new golden age for America.” CBS News had projected Trump close to victory with 267 electoral votes, just a few seats of the needed 270. Now, with his win confirmed, Trump will officially return to the White House. This makes him the first former president in over 130 years to be elected again after leaving office, a truly historic win for Trump.

Trump celebrated the Republican Party's strong results in key swing states, where they achieved a lot of support. He has already won prominent states like Georgia, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina, and is leading in others like Arizona, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Nevada. Projections show that Trump could go well past the 270 votes needed to win and might even reach 315 electoral votes. This success has also helped Republicans take control of the Senate and lead in the House of Representatives, giving the party more power in Congress.

A promise of a 'Golden Age' and thanks to supporters

In his victory speech in West Palm Beach, Trump thanked his supporters, family, and campaign team, including his running mate JD Vance. The 78-year-old candidate called this win a “miraculous victory for the American people.” He shared his plans for the future, promising to “make America great again.” Trump said that this day would be remembered as the time when the “American people regained control of their country,” showing his belief in a strong future for the country under his leadership.

Trump described his campaign as “the greatest political movement of all time” and shared his goals. He said, “We are going to help our country heal and fix our borders; we made history for a reason tonight. We have achieved the most incredible political win. I want to thank the American people. I will fight for you and your family with every breath in my body.” He acknowledged that the campaign was challenging and thanked supporters, including Tesla CEO and X platform owner Elon Musk, who had publicly supported his candidature.
