Canadian police arrested three people during a protest against a recent attack on a Hindu temple, the Hindu Sabha Mandir, in Brampton. Pro-Khalistani supporters, who want a separate Sikh homeland, are believed to have carried out the attack.
The protest was initiated by the Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA), a group that supports and promotes the Hindu community. They wanted to show unity and speak out against the "intimidation" from pro-Khalistani groups and actions they felt were "anti-Hindu."
Peel Regional Police said that the people they arrested were charged with crimes and were then moved to other places in Mississippi. There were also similar protests held at the Laxmi Narayan Temple in Surrey. Police are investigating these incidents further, with help from two special investigation teams, the 21 and 12 Division Criminal Investigation Bureaus.
Daniel Bordman, a senior reporter for the National Telegraph, criticised the police, saying they were supporting Khalistani groups and unfairly acting against Hindu protesters. India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), which looks after India’s relations with other countries, also spoke out. They said they were worried about the safety of Indian people in Canada and asked the Canadian government to protect temples and take legal action against those responsible for the attack.
Incident at the Hindu Sabha Mandir
The incident has worried Arya, who said, "The attack by Khalistani supporters on Hindu-Canadian worshippers inside the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton shows how bold and extreme Khalistani violence has become in Canada." He added that he is increasingly concerned that some Khalistani supporters might have gained influence within Canada’s government and police forces.
Arya explained further that Khalistani supporters are misusing “freedom of expression” in Canada to act without facing any consequences. He urged the Hindu-Canadian community to stay strong, protect their rights, and call for better security and safety. Arya also asked the political leaders in Canada to take responsibility for ensuring everyone’s safety.
Arya shared a video on social media showing people with Khalistani flags entering the temple grounds and fighting with those who were there. They were using sticks and flags as weapons. This disturbing video has sparked strong reactions and protests, with many people now calling for urgent action to stop such extreme behaviour.
