In Surat, Gujarat, a 32-year-old man named Mayur Tarapara cut off four fingers on his left hand because he was stressed from his job. Mayur worked as a computer operator at a diamond firm owned by a relative, but the work pressure became too much for him. He thought that by cutting off his fingers, he would not be able to do the computer-based job anymore.

At first, Mayur gave the police a different explanation. He said he was attacked while going to visit a friend. He claimed he fainted during the attack and woke up to find his fingers missing. Initially, some reports even suggested that his fingers might have been taken for black magic rituals.

Investigation reveals the truth

When the police started investigating, they noticed that Mayur's story didn’t add up. His things, like his phone, motorcycle, and cash, were still safe and untouched. The police also couldn’t find any signs of an attack where he claimed it happened.

After being confronted, Mayur admitted the truth. “Tarapara confessed that he bought a sharp knife from a shop near Char Rasta in Singapore. Four days later, on Sunday night, he went to Amroli Ring Road and parked his motorcycle there. At around 10 pm, he cut off four fingers with a knife and tied a rope near the elbow to prevent blood flow. He then put the knife and fingers in a bag and threw it away.”

Mayur told the police that he felt stuck in his job because of family obligations. The diamond firm he worked at was owned by a relative of his father. Mayur didn’t feel brave enough to tell anyone that he didn’t want to work in the firm’s accounts department anymore.

Work stress takes a heavy toll

Mayur earns ₹50,000 a month and lives with his wife and their two-year-old daughter. His father stays in their home village in Wadhvan. The police are still looking into the case. This unusual incident shows how work stress can sometimes make people take drastic and extreme actions.
