A road accident in Delhi on Sunday afternoon led to the death of Navjot Singh, a senior government officer, after his motorcycle was hit by a speeding BMW near Dhaula Kuan. Singh, who was Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, was travelling with his wife, Sandeep Kaur, when the incident took place around 1:30 pm.

The FIR states that the BMW, driven by Gaganpreet Kaur, a resident of Gurugram, hit their bike from behind at high speed. The impact threw both Singh and his wife onto the road. Singh suffered severe head, face and leg injuries, while his wife sustained multiple fractures, a head injury, and required 14 stitches.

According to Sandeep Kaur’s statement, after the crash, she repeatedly requested the accused to take them to the nearest hospital. Instead, they were driven almost 19 km away to Newlife Hospital in GTB Nagar, a small private facility reportedly linked to the accused. She said that this delay cost her husband’s life.

Doctors at Newlife Hospital declared Singh dead on arrival, while Kaur was admitted with injuries. Later, their son shifted her to Venkateshwar Hospital. Singh’s family has alleged that his life could have been saved if he had been taken to a nearby trauma centre, such as AIIMS or Safdarjung Hospital, both located close to the accident site.

The FIR also mentions that the accused introduced herself as Gaganpreet Kaur, provided her car number, and got herself admitted to the same hospital along with her injured husband. The victim’s family has claimed that hospital staff attempted to withhold information about her presence.

Police have seized the damaged BMW and arrested the driver. She faces charges of culpable homicide and other offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Her husband, said to be a businessman, is also under treatment.

Visuals from the scene showed the overturned BMW, the unconscious victims on the road, and the van that was used to transport them to GTB Nagar. The investigation into the case is ongoing, while the victim’s family has demanded strict action, saying Navjot Singh’s life was lost because of negligence and delay in proper medical help.
