Just in time for Easter, a website called aijesus.live has brought a virtual version of Jesus Christ to life. This isn’t a movie or cartoon; it’s a real-time, talking digital figure of Jesus powered by AI (Artificial Intelligence). Users can go on the website and have a video chat or confessional with this AI Jesus.
The creators of the project, Ben Polkinghorne, Zach Bishop, and Chris Chapman, say they wanted AI Jesus to feel as real as possible. As reported by Creative Boom, they said, “We want AI Jesus to feel like it’s the real Jesus talking to you. We fine-tuned his personality and speaking style in a way we hope is authentic.”
But this Jesus doesn’t just talk about faith. He also gives advice that includes product suggestions. The team behind the project says this is part of the idea, they call it a “satire on spiritual consumerism.”
For example, when asked about the apocalypse, AI Jesus replied, “My child, the end times are a mystery known only to the Father, but to prepare for any eventuality, I suggest you require a reliable emergency radio…the Eton FR350 so you can hear the warnings amidst the chaos.”
While it may sound like a joke, the creators said they started using product placements for fun, but later felt it made people think about deeper issues.
Not all of AI Jesus’ advice is product-related. When someone asked how many beers they should drink on their birthday, the AI answered: “My son, moderation is key, even in celebration.”
Though some people may feel odd about mixing religion with ads, the team behind AI Jesus says it’s not just a gimmick. They believe it raises real questions about how faith is shown in today’s world.
