An Indian-origin man was brutally killed in an incident at a Dallas motel on September 10, police said. The victim, 50-year-old Chandramouli Nagamallaiah, was beheaded in front of his wife and son after a violent argument.
The attack happened at the Downtown Suites Motel, located near Interstate 30 and the Tenison Golf Course in Texas. Photos from the scene showed police tape around the motel and a partition near the body.
Dallas Police have identified Yordanis Cobos-Martinez as the suspect. He was arrested soon after the attack and has been charged with capital murder. Jail records show that he is being held without bond and also faces an immigration detainer.
The Indian Consulate in Houston expressed deep sorrow over Nagamallaiah’s death. Officials confirmed they are in touch with his family and are providing all possible help. In a post on X, the Consulate wrote that they are closely following the case and coordinating with local authorities.
According to the police affidavit, the incident began when Nagamallaiah told Cobos-Martinez and a female colleague not to use a broken washing machine. Because Nagamallaiah gave instructions through the woman, who translated for him, Cobos-Martinez became angry, feeling disrespected.
Moments later, Cobos-Martinez pulled out a machete and attacked Nagamallaiah. The victim tried to escape, running through the motel parking lot and shouting for help, but the suspect chased him down. Witnesses said that Nagamallaiah’s wife and son rushed outside and tried to stop the attack, but the suspect pushed them away.
Police documents say that Cobos-Martinez struck Nagamallaiah multiple times with the machete until he was decapitated. CCTV footage showed the suspect kicking the victim’s head twice before throwing it into a dumpster.
Nearby Dallas Fire-Rescue workers saw the suspect, who was covered in blood, and followed him until police arrived and arrested him. Authorities said Cobos-Martinez admitted to killing Nagamallaiah with the machete. Police are still investigating whether the crime was planned in advance or carried out in a fit of rage.
