A story about a Swiggy Instamart order has gone viral on social media, raising concerns about how people may misuse artificial intelligence (AI) to commit fraud. According to a post shared on platform X, a customer who ordered a tray of eggs from Instamart allegedly used AI tools to fake an image and get a full refund.

The user, named Kapilansh on X, shared that the customer originally received a tray in which only one egg was cracked. Instead of reporting the issue normally, the customer is said to have used Google’s Gemini Nano AI to edit the photo. They typed the command “apply more cracks”, and within seconds, the AI changed the image to show more than 20 cracked eggs that looked completely realistic.

The edited photo was then submitted to Instamart’s customer support as proof of damage for a refund of ₹245. The support agent checked the image and immediately approved the refund without questioning whether the photo was real or edited. The post claims the refund was processed instantly and the case was closed.

The viral post shows a major problem: refund and complaint systems were designed at a time when photos were considered trustworthy proof. But now, with powerful AI tools available to everyone, fake images can be created in seconds and are nearly impossible to detect.

The user warned that if even a small number of customers begin using AI to cheat companies, it could seriously harm businesses, especially quick-commerce services such as Instamart, Blinkit, and Zepto. It could increase fraud, loss, and financial pressure on companies that already work on thin profit margins.

The author of the post clarified that AI is not the real problem. Instead, the issue is that verification and fraud-checking systems have not yet been updated to handle modern technology. They suggested that the future challenge for companies will be AI versus AI, where companies may need advanced tools to detect fake images and prevent fraud.

The specific incident involving Instamart has not been independently confirmed, but many experts say that such situations are now easily possible as AI-generated images become extremely realistic and everyday people gain access to advanced editing tools.
