An IIT Kharagpur student from Bengaluru, Animesh Chouhan, has developed an AI tool called RotiChecker.ai that can check the roundness of a roti. The tool measures the size and shape of the roti and provides a percentage score for accuracy. On January 31, Chouhan shared a demo of the tool, showcasing how it gave a βroundness scoreβ of 91.
To his surprise, the post quickly went viral, attracting the attention of several investors. Animesh also shared a screenshot from Google Trends, showing a surge in searches for related keywords like "Dosa Checker" and "Chai Colour Checker." What started as a joke, created in his free time, soon turned into a business opportunity. Animesh, now seeking funding, posted, βSeeking an investor to procure the domain name, offering 10% equity in return. Letβs make it happen!"

Animesh Chouhan later rebranded his AI tool as RotiMeter.ai, aiming to boost engagement. However, the move sparked a flurry of reactions, with the roti-checking tool quickly becoming a topic of debate. While many praised the innovative concept, others raised concerns about its implications. Some users criticized the tool, calling it trivial or even misogynistic. One user commented, βThis is extremely funny and extremely trivial," while another responded, βWho said this platform is only for women? If you assume that, then thatβs your own misogyny showing, not mine."
Further, a few users questioned the tool's focus on shape, asking, βWhoβs going to check the thickness? Which is a bigger determinant of taste compared to shape.β Some also expressed doubt over its necessity, with comments like, βNever understood this mainly North Indian obsession with rotis being perfect circles,β and, βChina has DeepSeek, and we have RotiChecker.ai.β Despite mixed opinions, the tool continues to spark curiosity and conversation.
In a world where AI has already transformed fields like technology, healthcare, business, and the environment, it's now making its way into content creation and even the kitchen. Tools like plagiarism checkers and grammar checkers help writers save time and enhance their work. Now, with RotiChecker.ai, AI is helping perfect the art of making rotis.
