A terror incident has shaken up the students in SR Educational Academy girls' hostel in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, as an unknown intruder attacked a first-year student while she slept late on Sunday night. Not only did he cut off all her hair, but also caused injuries to the right hand and wrist with a knife as he ran away while she woke up screaming.
Adding to the disturbing nature of the attack, unknown persons allegedly entered the hostel and left a chilling message for the victim. They placed a photograph of the student surrounded by lemons, an act often associated with superstition and black magic, and left behind a threatening letter that read, "I will kill you."
This episode has left the hostel's residents in fear, raising concerns over their safety within the premises.
Despite the gravity of the incident, the college management reportedly chose not to disclose the attack immediately. Although they provided medical attention to the victim, they failed to inform her family about the situation. It was only through fellow students that the victim's parents came to know about the attack, leading to outrage over the hostel’s lack of transparency and communication.
As news spread, student union leaders and women's rights groups staged protests outside the college, demanding a detailed investigation and strict punishment for those responsible. Protesters criticized the management for failing to ensure student safety and called for immediate reforms to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
Following the protests and parental complaints, a case was filed at the Kurnool Taluk Police Station. Law enforcement officials, along with Kurnool Regional Inspection Officer (RIO) Guruvayya Shetty and ICDS officials, visited the hostel to inspect the premises and question students about the attack.
