Huawei and China Unicom have launched China’s first 10G broadband network in Sunan County, Hebei Province. This new network is a big improvement in China’s internet system, according to a report by Azernews, which cited local tech outlet Mydrivers.

The high-speed internet is powered by 50G PON (Passive Optical Network) technology. This is a very advanced system that allows faster internet and lower delays. With this upgrade, internet speed for a single user has jumped from gigabit levels to 10G, and the delay or "latency" has been reduced to just a few milliseconds.

“Thanks to the upgrade of the basic architecture of the fibre-optic access network, the bandwidth of a single user increases from the traditional gigabit level to the 10G level, and network latency is reduced to the millisecond level,” the post said.

In a real-life test, a home using the new network reached download speeds of 9,834 Mbps and upload speeds of 1,008 Mbps. The latency was as low as three milliseconds. This is much faster than the internet most homes use today.

This high-speed network will allow better use of new technologies like 8K video, cloud services, virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR).

China is also leading in next-generation network growth. Mydrivers reported that as of January 2025, China had 4.25 million 5G base stations—more than any other country in the world.

Another tech success, Chang Guang Satellite Technology, achieved a speed of 100 Gbit/s when sending data from a satellite to Earth using laser communication. This is 10 times faster than the earlier record and even better than Starlink’s system.
