India has taken a big step towards hosting the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) officially showed the country’s interest by sending a Letter of Intent to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on October 1. This letter lets the IOC know that India wants to bring the Olympics to the country for the first time. This move is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s plan to boost India’s global position in sports and promote economic and social growth.
Now, India has officially started its journey to initiate to host the 2036 Olympics. The Olympics will take place in Los Angeles, USA, in 2028 and in Brisbane, Australia, in 2032. The IOC President, Thomas Bach, shared that many cities are interested in hosting the 2036 Games, and India is one of them.
Prime Minister Modi has often said he wants India to host the Olympics, calling it an important goal for the country’s sports future. During the recent Independence Day event, he spoke with Indian athletes who competed in the Paris Olympics. He asked them to share their experiences and ideas to help India prepare well for the 2036 Games.
“India is preparing to host the 2036 Olympics. In this regard, the input from athletes who have played in previous Olympics is very important. You all must have observed and experienced many things. We want to document this and share it with the government so that we don’t miss out on any small details in the preparation for 2036,” PM Modi stated at the event.
India’s excitement about hosting the Olympics was shown clearly during the 141st IOC meeting in Mumbai. At this event, PM Modi announced, “We will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to organise the Olympics on Indian soil in the year 2036. This is the age-old dream and aspiration of 140 crore Indians.”
IOC President supports India’s bid
IOC President Thomas Bach has expressed support for India’s hopes to host the Olympics, saying there is a “strong case” for India. Hosting the Olympics would improve India’s sports facilities, encourage young athletes, and match the country’s growing love for sports. Additionally, the Games would bring big economic benefits, like more tourism and better sports facilities across India.
India now joins a list of nine other countries competing for the 2036 Olympics, including Mexico, Indonesia, Turkey, Poland, Egypt, and South Korea.
