India's pursuit of the much-awaited glory in the upcoming T20 World Cup will be spearheaded by Rohit Sharma, as the BCCI revealed their roster for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.

Before the announcement, a lot of people were speculating about who will be the wicketkeeper and competing for the position. In the end, India has given the gloves to Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant.

With this, Pant will play in an international cricket match for the first time since an injury that almost killed him in December 2022 and sidelined him for over a year.

Shivan Dube kept his spot in the squad after playing in the most recent Twenty20 International series against Afghanistan, which helped him maintain his IPL form. Across nine games, the 30-year-old has amassed 350 runs at an astounding strike rate of 172.41 for the Chennai Super Kings, demonstrating his superb form.

With Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal in the bowling roster, India has chosen to focus heavily on spin. Jasprit Bumrah will lead the pace attack, supported by Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, and vice captain Hardik Pandya for support.

Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, and Yashasvi Jaiswal were all picked to prop up the top order alongside captain Rohit, thus there were no surprises in the playing lineup.

The pacers Avesh Khan and Khaleel Ahmed are the only other players Shubman Gill and Rinku Singh are included in the reserve side.

KL Rahul, who played in India's last two T20 World Cup campaigns (2021 and 2022), is a notable absence from the list.

Although the selection of Mohammad Siraj and Avesh Khan is a matter of surprise for the viewers as well as the experts, as far as cricket as a game is concerned, the shortest format in this game is T20, where current form matters more than experience and fame.

By seeing the current form of two individuals from Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals namely T Natrajan and Sandeep Sharma, respectively, it's hard to see someone like Mohammad Siraj who has conceded 9.50 runs in IPL 2024 and has managed just 6 wickets in 9 matches so far. The India fast bowler was even dropped for a game by RCB, who opted to give a break to their lead pacer after his horror start to the season.

India squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Hardik Pandya (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Siraj
