The Uttar Pradesh government has announced they will take strict action against those responsible for the recent violence in Sambhal. People involved in the incident will have to pay for the damage caused to public property.

The government plans to put up posters of people accused of throwing stones during the unrest. These posters will be shown in public places for everyone to see. A government official confirmed this, saying that the posters will include the faces of those involved in the incidents.

What happened in Sambhal?

On November 24, violence broke out in Sambhal, a district in Uttar Pradesh. It began when a large group protested against a court-ordered survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid in the Kot West area. The survey was ordered after a petition claimed that the mosque was once the site of a Hindu temple called the Harihar temple.

The protest in Sambhal turned violent, resulting in the deaths of four people and injuries to many others, including police officers. To find those responsible, the authorities are checking drone footage and CCTV recordings from the area.

Arrests and recovering damages

The government is acting strictly in response to the violence. So far, 27 people have been arrested. Officials said they will make those involved pay for the damages caused. They may also offer a reward for anyone who provides information to help arrest more suspects.

Sambhal's Superintendent of Police, Krishna Kumar Bishnoi, said they are using technology to identify and catch those involved in the violence.

This is not the first time the UP government has taken strict action like this. During the anti-CAA protests in 2020, they also displayed posters of people accused of rioting. However, those posters were later taken down after a court order.
