The recent Delhi Assembly polls witnessed a massive change in power, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) winning 48 of 70 seats, toppling the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which could manage just 22. As the BJP sets out to constitute the new government, all eyes are now on what lies ahead for the former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
With the new government to be sworn in on Thursday and the BJP is likely to make its selection for chief minister on Wednesday, before the oath-taking ceremony scheduled to happen tomorrow.

What happens to Kejriwal’s salary and perks?
As Chief Minister, Kejriwal had a monthly salary of Rs 60,000, with overall earnings, including allowances, at Rs 1.25 lakh. However, because he is out of power, he will not get any salary. Nevertheless, as a former CM and MLA, Kejriwal continues to receive some benefits and pensions.
Pension and allowances for former CMs
Ex-MLAs in Delhi are paid Rs 15,000 per monthly pension as per the Delhi Assembly website. Along with this, if an MLA has won two or more elections, the pension rises by Rs 1,000 for each successive term.
Apart from the pension, Kejriwal has access to all facilities provided by the government.
Major amenities for former Delhi CMs
Government bungalow: The ex-CM can apply for government housing.
Monthly pension: Kejriwal will receive Rs 15,000 per month as a retired MLA, with increments depending on his service.
Medical facilities: Kejriwal and his family will be entitled to free medical care at government hospitals and some private hospitals.
Travel allowance: He will get travel allowances for official visits.
Security and transport: A government car with a driver will be given for security reasons.
Communication allowance: Ex-CMs also get their telephone and internet bills covered.
These facilities are provided so that ex-chief ministers can maintain a secure post-office life with the required facilities.
