Senior Congress leader Udit Raj has strongly criticised his party colleague Shashi Tharoor for praising the Narendra Modi government over Operation Sindoor during a visit to Panama. Tharoor is currently leading an Indian multi-party delegation there.
Udit Raj said that Tharoor is speaking in favour of Prime Minister Modi more than even BJP leaders. He said Tharoor’s words sound like he is a “super spokesperson” for the BJP.
“Congress MP Shashi Tharoor is the super spokesperson of the BJP, and what the BJP leaders are not saying when it comes to speaking in favour of PM Modi and the government, he is doing,” Udit Raj told news agency ANI.
Raj also accused the Modi government of taking credit for the Army’s actions. “Earlier governments were not like the current one. This government won't do anything, but they will still take credit for it,” he said.
Tharoor speaks about India’s tough stand on terrorism
Shashi Tharoor had earlier made a statement in Panama where he praised India’s strong response to terrorism under the Modi government. He said that India’s approach towards terrorism has changed, and now terrorists know they will be punished.
He also praised India’s past military actions, including the 2016 surgical strike and the 2019 Balakot airstrike.
“What has changed in recent years is that the terrorists have also realised they will have a price to pay; on that, let there be no doubt. When, for the first time, India breached the Line of Control between India and Pakistan to conduct a surgical strike on a terror base, a launch pad, the Uri strike in September 2016,” Tharoor said.
He added that even during the Kargil War, India did not cross the LoC. But in 2019, India went beyond the international border after the Pulwama terror attack.
