Racheal Kaur, a mother of two and an assistant manager at AirAsia, has gained global attention for her unique daily commute. Instead of spending hours on the road, she flies from Penang to Kuala Lumpur and back every day. Her unusual travel routine has impressed many, earning her the title of ‘super commuter.’

Kaur covers around 350 km daily, a distance similar to commuting from Aurangabad toMumbai or Shimla to Delhi for work in India.

Kaur shared that her dailyflightshelp her balance work and family life, allowing her to be with her children in the evenings. She also finds this arrangement more cost-effective and convenient than renting a place near her office.
“I have two kids, my oldest is 12, and my daughter is 11. As they grow, I feel it's important for a mother to be present. With this routine, I can go home every day and be with them at night,” she said.

Before 2024, Kaur rented a home in Kuala Lumpur near her office and travelled back to Penang only once a week. However, the distance took a toll on her work-life balance. With her new travel routine, she now gets to spend more time at home, making it easier to balance work and family life.

Kaur’s daily routine

Racheal Kaur starts her day early, waking up at 4:00 am to prepare for work. By 5:00 am, she heads to the airport to catch her 5:55 am flight, reaching her office destination by 7:45 am to begin her workday.
After a full day at the office, she takes a flight back home, landing by 8:00 pm, allowing her to spend quality time with her family.

Surprisingly, her daily flights are more cost-effective than renting a home near her office. By commuting this way, she has reduced her monthly expenses for food and accommodation from $474 (₹42,000) to $316 (₹28,000).
For Kaur, her daily flight is a valuable opportunity for "me time." She spends the journey reflecting on life, listening to music, and enjoying the view. This routine helps her relax and smoothly transition between work and family life.
