Delhi Police have solved the murder of a 32-year-old UPSC aspirant whose burned body was found earlier this month in his rented flat in Gandhi Vihar. At first, the case looked like a fire accident caused by an AC blast. However, police later found that it was a planned murder carried out by the victim’s live-in partner and her two associates.

The victim, Ramkesh Meena, was preparing for government exams and living in Delhi. He had been in a live-in relationship with Amrita Chauhan, a 21-year-old Forensic Science student from Moradabad. The two started living together in May this year.

Their relationship turned bitter after Amrita learned that Meena had secretly recorded private videos of her. She had asked him several times to delete them, but he refused. Feeling insulted and angry, Amrita discussed the matter with her ex-boyfriend, Sumit Kashyap, who then agreed to help her. Sumit also involved his friend Sandeep Kumar in the plan.

Police said the trio travelled from Moradabad to Delhi late at night on October 5. CCTV footage showed two masked men and a woman entering the victim’s building. They attacked Meena in his flat and strangled him to death. To hide the murder, they poured ghee, oil, and liquor on his body and set it on fire.

Sumit, who works as an LPG distributor, opened a gas cylinder valve to cause a blast and make the fire look like an accident. Before running away, they locked the flat from outside through a small gap in the gate so that no one would suspect foul play.

Around 3 a.m., the fire casued an explosion inside the flat. Police and fire officials reached the spot and found a severely burned body. The case initially appeared to be an accident, but CCTV footage and the unusual burn pattern made investigators doubtful.

During the investigation, police tracked Amrita through her mobile location and call records. She was arrested on October 18. During questioning, she confessed to the murder and revealed the entire plot. Based on her statement, police arrested Sumit on October 21 and Sandeep on October 23.

The police also recovered a hard disk, laptops, a trolley bag, and mobile phones that the accused had stolen to destroy evidence. Officers said Amrita’s knowledge of forensic science and her interest in crime shows helped her plan the murder and attempt to hide the crime. All three accused are now in police custody, and further investigation is ongoing.
