Amit Tanwar, a detained individual, posted about his experience on Instagram, urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian Embassy in Moscow to take action.

According to Tanwar, the group of 12 Indian tourists landed in Moscow on July 8 with all the necessary and valid documents. However, only three were allowed entry while the remaining nine were held back by immigration officials, without any explanation.

Tanwar wrote, "Out of the 12, only three were cleared by Moscow immigration, while the remaining nine (including myself) were held back without any explanation."

In his detailed post, Tanwar shared that their passports were taken away and they were asked to sit in a corner with other Indian travellers who were also being held. An hour later, the group was taken to another room where immigration officials allegedly searched their phones, including photo galleries, Google history, and YouTube activity.

"They also went through all our documents, travel itineraries, and the cash we were carrying," he added.

Tanwar said they were eventually told they were being deported, but were not given any clear reason. The officials spoke only in Russian, and the group was moved to a room already filled with other people, some of whom had been there for 2-3 days.

"We are being treated like criminals... The treatment we are receiving is inhumane, and we are feeling helpless and humiliated," he wrote.

Tanwar described the conditions inside the holding room, stating that they were confined to a locked space with no proper assistance. The food provided was minimal: a small portion of rice and boiled vegetables, along with just 500 ml of water, served only twice a day.

He also shared a photo of the food on social media, calling the behaviour of Russian officials towards Indian travellers extremely rude.

Tanwar also opened up about the emotional toll of the situation. "They are departing us in small groups-- just 1 or 2 people at a time. Imagine the mental state of the last person left behind, waiting alone, unsure of when they'll be sent back or what will happen next," he said.

The group was informed they would be deported via Baku in Azerbaijan, which raised further concern among them. Even though they offered to book their own return flights, Tanwar said Russian officials did not allow it.

"We are stuck here with no idea when we will be released - it might take 2-3 days, or maybe even 4-5... We are so scared of the authorities here that we are even hesitant to raise a complaint or speak publicly-- fearing that doing so might get us held even longer," he added.

In a later update via his Instagram stories, Tanwar confirmed that he had landed in Mumbai in the early hours of Thursday. The condition of the other tourists who were detained with him is currently not known.

There has been no official response yet from the Indian Embassy in Moscow or the Russian authorities regarding the allegations.
