Anmol Bishnoi, the brother of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and a key accused in several major criminal cases, has been deported from the United States and will reach New Delhi today. He is being sent back to India along with 199 other deportees under an arrangement with the Trump administration.
According to officials, the flight carrying Anmol, two more fugitives wanted by Punjab Police, and other deportees has already taken off from the US and is expected to land at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport at 10 am on Wednesday.
Anmol Bishnoi is wanted in India for many crimes, including the murder of former Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Baba Siddique, and the firing outside actor Salman Khan’s house in April 2024. He is the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, whose network has been linked to various high-profile crimes.
Intelligence agencies say Anmol escaped from India in April 2022 using a fake passport. This happened just weeks before popular Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead on May 29, 2022, in Punjab’s Mansa district. His name had come up during the investigation of the Moosewala murder case as well.
Officials confirmed that Anmol is being deported from the US after coordinated efforts by Indian agencies. The Mumbai Police had sent two requests for his extradition, and now that he is returning, the Union government will decide which agency will get his custody first. Since he is wanted in multiple states, different police units are preparing to question him. Mumbai Police has also said they will seek his custody once he lands.
Earlier this month, agencies learned that Anmol had been detained in Canada. He was reportedly carrying a Russian passport made with fake documents. Last November, he had also been detained in the US. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had declared a ₹10 lakh reward for information leading to his arrest.
In the Baba Siddique murder case, Mumbai Police had arrested over two dozen accused and invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). Anmol, along with Shubham Lonkar and Zishan Mohammed Akhtar, was listed as a wanted accused. Baba Siddique was shot dead on October 12, 2024, outside his son Zeeshan’s office in Bandra. Zeeshan recently confirmed receiving an email stating that Anmol had been removed from the US, which means he is now on his way back to face trial in India.
