A woman accused border officials in Georgia of treating 56 Indian tourists in the “most inhuman” way while they were trying to cross into Armenia. The woman, named Dhruvee Patel, shared her experience on Instagram and claimed that the entire group was humiliated and made to suffer at the border.
According to Patel, the incident happened at Sadakhlo, an important border crossing between Georgia and Armenia. She alleged that the Georgian border authorities forced the Indian travellers to sit outside in freezing weather for hours. During this time, they were not given any food, water, or even access to a washroom. Patel further said that officials even took away their passports and did not allow them to use their phones to communicate.
“They made us sit on the footpath like cattle. They took videos of us as if we were criminals, but did not let us record anything,” she wrote. Patel also claimed that without properly checking their documents, the officers accused them of having “wrong visas.”
She expressed her disappointment by saying, “This is how Georgia treats Indians. Shameful and unacceptable.”
Her post quickly went viral and sparked strong reactions online. While some people supported Patel and condemned the alleged behaviour of Georgian officials, others blamed the Indians themselves, saying travellers must also improve their civic sense. A few social media users questioned why Indians continue to visit Georgia if such treatment is common.
One person even called for a boycott of Georgia, saying the country is “full of scams and racism” and “not worth visiting.” Another user shared his own bad experience from 2019, saying he too was treated poorly by border officials who looked at him “like a criminal.” This incident has once again raised questions about the treatment of Indian tourists in some countries and the need for stronger action to ensure the safety and dignity of travellers abroad.
