Terrorists tried to attack Tikka Post in Uri, Baramulla district of J&K, but the Indian Army troops stopped them on the night of August 12–13.

The attack happened in the area monitored by 16 Sikh LI (09 Bihar Advance Party) and falls under Uri Police Station’s jurisdiction.

Officials said Pakistan-based terrorists attempted to attack a forward post, but Indian soldiers acted swiftly and stopped them. A major search operation was then launched to track the intruders hiding in the dark. During the gunfight, Havaldar Ankit and Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar were fatally injured while defending their post.

On social media platform X, the Indian Army said:

"General Upendra Dwivedi, COAS, and All Ranks of the Indian Army salute the supreme sacrifice of Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar, who laid down his life in the line of duty at Baramulla in Jammu & Kashmir. Indian Army offers deepest condolences and stands in solidarity with the bereaved family in this hour of grief."

Ongoing Operation Akhal

This incident comes amid Operation Akhal, which began on August 1 after security forces launched a search in a forest area at Akhal, South Kashmir, following intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists.

As the operation entered its ninth day, Lance Naik Pritpal Singh and Sepoy Harminder Singh were killed. Security forces have so far eliminated more than five terrorists.

A series of anti-terror operations

Operation Akhal follows Operation Mahadev, in which Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists responsible for a massacre near Srinagar’s Dachigam area were neutralised. A day later, Operation Shiv Shakti was carried out, leading to the elimination of two more terrorists.
