The Rajasthan government has carried out a big operation to stop factories making fake fertilisers and poor-quality seeds. They found a large network that was making and selling fake fertilisers not only in Rajasthan but also in other states. The Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Departments worked together to raid over 30 factories in places like Jaipur, Kishangarh, and Sriganganagar.
Officials found that these factories were mixing things like marble powder, stone dust, soil, and coloured dyes to make fake fertilisers that looked like real brands. In Kishangarh and Ajmer’s Tilonia area, they discovered large amounts of fake fertilisers labelled as IFFCO, made from industrial waste like marble slurry. The mixture was heated and shaped to look like real fertilisers, then coloured and packed to sell as genuine products. One factory, Atishi Agrotech, had huge amounts of marble powder and sand used for making fake fertilisers.
The investigation showed these factories were supplying over 200,000 bags of fake fertilisers every day to states like Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. These fake fertilisers are harmful to crops and soil but are being sold as organic or good quality, tricking many farmers.
There are also worries that some officials who were supposed to check these factories may have helped them, causing delays in taking action. The Additional Director of Rajasthan’s Agriculture Department said they received reliable information, collected samples, and are still investigating.
