A man injured in a road accident died in a hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut, allegedly because doctors on duty were asleep and did not treat him in time. The incident took place at Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial (LLRM) Medical College, where the man, identified as Sunil, was brought by the police on Monday evening after he suffered serious injuries in a road accident.

Sunil was bleeding heavily when he was admitted to the emergency ward. His family claims that he was left crying in pain on a stretcher for a long time while two junior doctors, Bhupesh Kumar Rai and Aniket, were sleeping instead of attending to him. A security camera video has gone viral, showing one of the doctors sleeping with his leg stretched out on a table near an air conditioner.
In the same video, a woman holding a child and a prescription is seen trying to wake the doctor. Sunil can be seen lying nearby with blood flowing from his leg. At the time of the incident, the doctor in charge, Dr Shashank Jindal, was not present at the hospital. Later, he said that as soon as he heard about the patient's condition and the family's complaints, he rushed to the hospital and gave Sunil IV fluids and put a cast on his leg.
Despite the treatment, Sunil died the next morning at 7 am. His family blames the delay in treatment for his death. However, Dr Jindal said the patient was already in a critical condition when brought in. Following the viral video and public outrage, two junior doctors have been suspended. The Principal of the medical college, Dr RC Gupta, confirmed the action and said an investigation is ongoing. The Meerut District Magistrate has also been asked to look into the matter.
