One terrorist was killed and an Indian Army officer was injured in an anti-terror operation in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Monday, September 8. The injured officer has been airlifted to the Army’s base hospital in Srinagar for treatment.

Security forces had received intelligence about the presence of two to three terrorists in the forest area of Guddar. Following the input, a cordon and search operation was launched. During the search, terrorists opened fire at the forces, triggering a gunfight.

In the initial exchange of fire, one soldier sustained injuries.

The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps later confirmed the encounter on X (formerly Twitter), stating:

“OP GUDDAR, Kulgam. Based on specific intelligence input by JKP, a joint search operation was launched by #IndianArmy, @JmuKmrPolice & @crpf_srinagar in Guddar forest of #Kulgam. Vigilant troops observed suspicious activity, and upon being challenged, terrorists opened fire, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire during which one terrorist was eliminated and a junior commissioned officer suffered injuries. Operation is in progress.”

Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir Police also confirmed the encounter. “Based on specific intelligence, Encounter has started in the Guddar forest of Kulgam. SOG of J&K Police, Army, and CRPF on the job. Further details to follow,” they said.

NIA raids across Kashmir & five states

Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out a series of raids across multiple states and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. The searches were linked to case RC-1/2025/NIA/CHE.

According to reports, 22 locations across five states and several sites in Jammu and Kashmir, including Kulgam, Pulwama, and Baramulla, were raided. One of the raids was conducted at the residence of Umer Rashid Lone in Zangam village of Pattan town, Baramulla district.

Border Security Force (BSF) personnel detained a Pakistani national in the RS Pura sector of Jammu district. Troops spotted suspicious movement near a border pillar and took the man into custody.

He is currently being interrogated, and further details are awaited.
