About Prashant Satpathy
Prashant Satpathy, from Balasore district in Odisha, was one of the 26 people killed in the terror attack at Baisaran near Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday afternoon. He had gone to Kashmir with his wife and eight-year-old son for a short family vacation. Sadly, the trip ended in tragedy when terrorists opened fire on tourists at the popular meadow.
Prashant Satpathy’s death was confirmed through a helpline set up by the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Sources say he was shot during the first round of gunfire. His wife and son survived the attack. Local officials in Balasore are working with authorities in Kashmir and the central government to bring the family and Prashant’s body back to Odisha.
The attack took place around 3 pm on Tuesday at Baisaran, a high-altitude meadow about six kilometres from Pahalgam, in Anantnag district of south Kashmir. Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as gunmen entered the area, which is known for its pine trees and scenic views, and started shooting at the unarmed tourists. People were enjoying picnics, riding ponies, and taking photos when the shooting began. This attack is the deadliest against civilians in the Valley since the 2019 Pulwama suicide bombing.
