Jewar International Airport, which is set to become the largest airport in Asia, will begin regular operations in April 2025. Minister for Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu shared this update while speaking in the Rajya Sabha.

He confirmed that a validation flight had already been conducted in December 2024 and that everything is going according to the planned schedule. "Jewar airport is emerging as the country's and Asia's biggest airport. We have conducted the validation flight in December at the airport. Everything is going according to timelines, and very soon in the month of April, we will see regular operations starting from Jewar-Noida international airport," he told the Upper House.

Airlines are excited about improved connectivity

The minister said that major airlines, including Air India and IndiGo, are looking forward to starting flights from Jewar. "...The airport lies right next to the Noida Expressway, and we will see connectivity of roads happening very soon," he added.

During the discussion, the minister also mentioned that the government’s UDAN scheme, which makes air travel more affordable, will be extended for another ten years. "The government is working on adding another 100 airports across the country," he said.

Regarding Kushinagar airport, he assured that it "would be opened soon" as the government is working towards it.

Jewar International Airport

Noida International Airport, also called Jewar Airport, is a new airport being built in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh. It will serve the National Capital Region (NCR) and help reduce the heavy traffic at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The airport is located in a new city planned by YEIDA (Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority). Once finished, it will be the biggest airport in India and Asia.

The Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) is handling the project for the Uttar Pradesh government. It is being built under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, which means both the government and private companies are involved in its construction and operation.

In 2019, a Swiss company, Flughafen Zürich AG, which operates Zurich Airport, won the contract to build and run the airport for 40 years.
