A dramatic moment was created during a review meeting when BJP MLA Rajeev Gumber from Saharanpur took out ₹50,000 in cash from his pocket and offered it to power department officials after they cited a shortage of funds for not removing two electric poles standing in the middle of a road.

A video of the incident, which has now gone viral, shows the visibly angry legislator confronting officials over the delay in shifting the poles in Raiwala Bazaar, which he said were creating a serious inconvenience for commuters.
“If money is needed for public welfare, I will pay. Now get the work done,” Gumber said, slamming the department for inaction. He added, “Essential work of public interest cannot be delayed indefinitely. I am giving the money.”

The meeting began with Gumber sharply criticising officials over alleged delays in public works and what he described as the department's careless attitude. The MLA raised multiple issues concerning the region's power infrastructure, including the improper supply of electricity to the Shakumbhari Vihar area through a rural feeder, despite the locality being classified as urban.

“Several years have passed since delimitation, yet urban areas are still being powered through rural lines,” he pointed out. Gumber also called for the removal of old and unused electric poles in Indira Colony and Tagore Garden on Papermill Road. He stressed the need for urgent repairs to damaged electric wires and a broken 66kV insulator in Amardeep Colony.

Another issue raised was the delay in removing a transformer at Tota Chowk, despite funds already being allocated for the task. Frequent power outages at the Jain Bagh power substation also came under discussion. Before concluding the meeting, the MLA issued a stern warning to the department, making it clear that negligence in matters of public welfare would not be tolerated.
