Aditi Mishra, an 18-year-old engineering student, died by suicide on Wednesday (February 12) in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. She left a "sorry" note for her parents before taking this extreme step.
Aditi had been preparing for the JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) for the last two years at Momentum Coaching Centre, located in the Cantt police station area. She stayed at Satyadeep Girls Hostel, where she shared a room with another student.
On Tuesday, February 11, the JEE results were announced, and Aditi did not pass. Heartbroken by the result, she spoke to her parents on Wednesday morning. During the conversation, she also asked her father to recharge her mobile. Reports suggest she was very upset.
Suicide note found in room
At the time of the incident, Aditi’s roommate was not in the room. When she returned, she knocked on the door, but Aditi did not respond. The roommate then peeped inside and saw Aditi hanging with a stole. She immediately informed the hostel warden, who then called the police.
The police found a suicide note in Aditi’s room. In her final words, she wrote:
"Sorry, Mummy and Papa, forgive me... I could not do it... this was the end of our relationship... you guys don't cry... you guys gave me a lot of love. I could not fulfil your dreams... you guys please take care of Choti... she will definitely fulfil your dreams. Your beloved daughter, Aditi."
Investigation underway
Aditi’s parents, who live in Mishraulia village, Sant Kabir Nagar district, have been informed. Her body has been sent for postmortem. Superintendent of Police (City) Abhinav Tyagi said the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the postmortem report.
