A students' organisation in Madhya Pradesh has demanded an investigation after a woman, who was recently selected for a government job under the disabled quota, was seen dancing in a viral social media video.
The woman, Priyanka Kadam, has denied any wrongdoing in her selection. She explained that she has a 45 percent disability due to bone-related issues but is still able to walk and dance for a short time.
Radhe Jat, a leader of the National Educated Youth Union, said in a statement that Priyanka Kadam appeared for the State Service Examination 2022 conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC). He said that she applied under the disabled quota by providing a certificate for being "bone-disabled."
Social media video raises questions
The results of the MPPSC examination were announced last month, and Priyanka Kadam was selected for the post of district excise officer. However, after her selection, videos of her dancing surfaced on social media, leading to doubts about her disability claim.
Radhe Jat has called for all candidates selected under the disabled quota to be examined by doctors from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhopal to verify their certificates. So far, MPPSC officials have not responded to the allegations or the demand for verification.
Priyanka Kadam defends herself
When contacted, Priyanka Kadam strongly denied any irregularities in her appointment.
"I come from an ordinary background, and I have achieved my position in life by struggling hard," she said.
She explained that she suffered a serious hip injury in 2017 after falling in the bathroom. An MRI scan revealed that she had avascular necrosis, a condition where bone tissues die due to a lack of blood supply. Following this, she underwent four surgeries.
Priyanka Kadam stated that she has a 45 percent disability.
"I may look like a normal woman at first glance, but it is because of implants installed during a complex surgery that I am able to walk and can even dance for five to ten minutes, as suggested by the doctors. But I also have to take painkillers at times," she explained.
She said that dancing occasionally helps her stay motivated. "I dance a little now and then to keep my morale high," she added.
Currently, Priyanka Kadam is working as an assistant audit officer in the treasury and accounts department in Ujjain. Though she was selected for the post of district excise officer, she has not yet been appointed due to the ongoing government process.
The controversy over her selection continues, with many awaiting an official response from MPPSC regarding the inquiry demand.
