A man trying to plant a bomb on the Amritsar bypass was seriously injured when the bomb exploded in his hands. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The blast happened near Naushera village in the Kambo police station area of Amritsar rural district. Police quickly reached the spot and sealed off the area. Videos showed smoke rising near the main road after the explosion.

Police are investigating whether the incident was part of a bigger plan or just a one-off case. A senior officer said the man may have come to pick up a package and got hurt while handling the explosive. SSP Maninder Singh, said, “We got information this morning about an explosion here. Police quickly reached the spot, and a seriously injured man was taken to the hospital. Usually, in this empty area, we have seen anti-national groups come to collect their packages. We believe this man was one of them and got hurt because he mishandled an explosive. Our forensic team is on the way.”

Other incidents

Earlier similar incidents in Amritsar and nearby Gurdaspur have raised security concerns. Residents in both districts reported hearing multiple loud blasts, especially near Sri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport and the Khasa area, which caused panic. While no major damage was reported, the administration temporarily cut off electricity as a safety measure, which was later restored.

Police launched a search operation to trace any debris from suspected drones or missiles, possibly neutralized by security forces. In Jallupur Khera village near Beas, a drone was reported to have crashed, but no harm was caused. A loud noise was also heard in Gurdaspur’s Kahnuwan block, adding to the tension. Authorities believe these events could be connected. They suspect the injured man near the bypass was part of a network retrieving explosives, a pattern seen in previous incidents involving anti-national elements. Investigations are ongoing to determine if these incidents are isolated or part of a larger plan.
