In Bhopal’s Royal Farm Villa Colony, a normal evening turned into a heartbreaking tragedy on Monday night. At around 10 PM, strong winds caused a power failure in the area. This sudden blackout left 8-year-old Devansh trapped inside the elevator of their home on Hoshangabad Road.

Devansh had just stepped into the elevator when the lights went out, causing the lift to stop moving. Inside, the boy called out for his father, shouting, "Papa... Papa..." The sound of his scared voice filled the silent building.

His father, 51-year-old Rishiraj Bhatanagar, immediately ran to the generator room in an attempt to restore power. After about three minutes, the electricity came back on, and the elevator started moving again. Devansh was able to get out safely.

However, during his rush to help his son, Rishiraj collapsed. Despite immediate CPR efforts from neighbors and quick hospital care, doctors declared him dead on arrival. The cause of death was a heart attack, brought on by the stress and panic of the moment.

“He ran up and down, tried to start the generator... My sister gave him CPR, but it was too late,” said neighbor Vivek Singh. Another resident, Brij Saxena, added, “There was a delay in generator backup. The panic was overwhelming. Even though we rushed him to the hospital, he couldn't be saved.”

Police have started investigating the incident. Manish Raj Bhadoria, the officer in charge, said, “Initial findings show the boy was stuck in the lift, and the father was trying to rescue him. During the attempt, he collapsed. Every angle is being investigated.”

Rishiraj was well-known in the colony as a responsible man who helped maintain the area quietly and without complaint. His sudden death has left the family and neighbors stunned. Just that morning, his wife had prayed for his long life, observing a traditional fast. But by night, tragedy struck.
