The Prayagraj police have made big plans to keep everyone safe during Mahakumbh 2025, a huge religious festival that happens every 12 years. This event, from January 13 to February 26, 2025, will bring more than 45 crore people to Prayagraj.

Uttar Pradesh’s top police officer, DGP Prashant Kumar, shared the details of the security plan. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also given orders to ensure the routes connecting Prayagraj to nearby areas are secure. These steps are aimed at making the festival safe and smooth for everyone attending.

Multi-layered security for devotees

The Uttar Pradesh Police has set up a strong security system called “chakravyuh,” which means a protective circular setup, around Prayagraj for Mahakumbh 2025. Here's what they’ve done:

  • 102 checkpoints: Police have placed 102 checkpoints along seven main roads leading to the city to check vehicles and people entering Prayagraj.
  • 40,000 police personnel: A large team of officers, including inspectors and constables, will be on duty to manage these checkpoints and other security needs.
  • Advanced technology: Modern tools like AI (artificial intelligence) and drones will help monitor the area. Over 2,700 AI cameras have been installed, and 113 underwater drones will watch the rivers for safety.

Special plans for large crowds

To handle the massive number of visitors, the police are also using modern techniques:

  • Practice drills: The police have worked with teams like the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), National Security Guard (NSG), and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) to practice emergency situations.
  • Patrol vehicles and drones: Special vehicles, called Vajra, and 10 drones will keep watch around the clock.
  • Focus on shahi snans: On special bathing days—Makar Sankranti (January 14), Mauni Amavasya (January 29), and Basant Panchami (February 3)—extra security will be in place, as lakhs of devotees are expected at Sangam, the holy spot where the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers meet.

These measures aim to make Mahakumbh 2025 safe and well-organised for everyone attending.

Commitment to safety

DGP Prashant Kumar has assured everyone that the police are fully ready to manage the large number of people expected at Mahakumbh 2025. This event is not just important because of its religious value but also because of the special arrangements made to keep the huge crowd safe and ensure everything runs smoothly.

Mahakumbh, which takes place every 12 years, aims to provide a safe and unforgettable experience for all visitors. This has been made possible through the hard work of thousands of police personnel and the use of advanced technology.
