The Rajasthan Police’s CID Intelligence Wing has arrested a man from Punjab for spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI. The accused, Prakash Singh, also known as Badal, is 34 years old and belongs to Ferozepur in Punjab. He was caught near a military area in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, where he was reportedly collecting sensitive information.
Inspector General of Police (Intelligence) Prafulla Kumar said that Prakash Singh had been in regular contact with ISI handlers through social media, mainly WhatsApp. This communication had been going on since “Operation Sindoor,” an earlier security operation.
According to the police, he was keeping an eye on the movement of the Indian Army and was recording photos and videos of military activities. He also monitored troop movements, military vehicles, and construction work near the border, such as roads, bridges, and railway tracks. He reportedly gathered such information not only in Rajasthan but also in parts of Punjab and Gujarat.
The investigation showed that Prakash used clever tricks to hide his identity. He would obtain OTPs from other people’s mobile numbers, create WhatsApp accounts in their names, and then use these accounts to send information to Pakistan. He is believed to have received large amounts of money in exchange for spying.
On November 27, the Border Intelligence team noticed suspicious activity near the Sadhuwali military zone in Sri Ganganagar and detained him. When they checked his phone, they found chats with several Pakistani numbers, which raised serious concerns. He was then taken for questioning at the Joint Interrogation Centre in Sri Ganganagar and later in Jaipur. During this process, digital evidence was recovered, clearly showing that he was involved in spying activities.
On December 1, a formal case was registered against him under the Official Secrets Act, 1923, at the Special Police Station in Jaipur. Police officials have said that the interrogation will continue, as they are trying to find out who else was involved with him. They suspect that he may have links with more people in both Rajasthan and Punjab who could be part of the same network. The investigation is still ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge in the coming days.
