A vegetable seller from Rajasthan has become a crorepati overnight after winning ₹11 crore in the Punjab State Lottery “Diwali Bumper 2025.” What makes his story even more inspiring is that he bought the winning ticket using borrowed money from a friend.
The lucky winner, Amit Sehra, hails from Kotputli in Jaipur, where he sells vegetables on a cart to support his family. During a recent trip to Bathinda in Punjab, Amit decided to try his luck and purchased a lottery ticket from a local shop. The ticket turned out to be the jackpot winner, completely transforming his life.
When the results were announced on October 31, Amit couldn’t believe his eyes. Overwhelmed with emotion, he said he never imagined something like this could happen to him. “It is God’s blessing that he gave me ‘chhappar phad ke’,” he said tearfully, using a Hindi phrase meaning an unexpected and abundant reward.
Amit revealed that he didn’t even have enough money to travel to Chandigarh to complete the formalities required to claim his winnings. “I had to borrow money even to buy the ticket,” he said, expressing deep gratitude to his friend Mukesh, who lent him the amount. Out of appreciation, Amit has promised to give Mukesh ₹1 crore from his prize money.
The humble vegetable seller shared that he plans to use the money for his family’s well-being, particularly to secure a good education for his two young children. “My children’s future will now be bright. I want to make sure they study well and live a better life,” he said.
Amit’s win has become a story of hope and good fortune, showing that sometimes, with a little help and a lot of luck, life can change in ways one could never imagine.
