During a debate on the National Education Policy (NEP), Opposition Leader Mallikarjun Kharge made a derogatory remark that caused a big uproar in the Rajya Sabha. BJP MPs criticized him for using unparliamentary language, claiming his comment was meant for the chairperson. However, Kharge clarified that his words were directed at the government's policies.

He later apologised for the remark, which roughly means "knock someone out," and it was removed from the official records.

During a discussion on the Education Ministry's work in the Rajya Sabha, the opposition demanded an apology from Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for his "uncivilised" comment directed at DMK MPs amid the debate over the three-language policy in the National Education Policy (NEP).

While the deputy chairperson Harivansh called on Congress leader Digvijay Singh to begin the discussion, Mallikarjun Kharge interrupted to bring up Pradhan's remark. "This is a dictatorship," Kharge said when Harivansh asked him to sit down.

Kharge then used a casual Hindi expression to warn the opposition, saying, "Hum poori tayyari se aaye hain aur aapko kya thokna hai, thik se thokenge, sarkar ko bhi thokenge," meaning that the opposition is fully prepared to hold the government accountable.

Union Minister JP Nadda criticized Kharge's words, calling them "condemnable" and "unpardonable." Nadda said everyone should condemn such language and that Kharge should apologize, with the remark removed.
Deputy Chairman Harivansh also disapproved, noting Kharge's seniority in the House and the importance of choosing a proper language.

Kharge later apologized and clarified that his words were aimed at the government's policy, not the Chair. He said, "I apologize. I never meant to speak against you. I was criticizing the government's policy, and I'm sorry if my words seemed harsh."

This happened a day after a heated exchange between Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and DMK MPs when Pradhan called the Tamil Nadu government "dishonest" and its people "uncivilised."

During his speech in the Lok Sabha, Pradhan strongly criticized the DMK over the three-language policy issue. He accused the party of being dishonest and playing politics at the cost of Tamil Nadu students' future. He said, "They are not committed to the students of Tamil Nadu. They are only raising language barriers, creating mischief, and acting undemocratically and uncivilised."
