A couple in Hyderabad took their own lives after killing their two children, aged 13 and 10, due to financial struggles and health issues.

In a note written in Telugu, they expressed their despair: "I had no choice but to end my life. Please forgive me. I have been struggling in my career and suffering mentally and physically. I have diabetes, nerve, and kidney-related problems."

Chandrasekhar Reddy, 44, and his wife, Kavitha, 35, had been facing severe financial difficulties as Mr Reddy had been unemployed since 2023. He previously worked as a junior lecturer at a private college. With no money and no hope, they took the extreme step of ending their children’s lives before dying by suicide. Police were alerted through an emergency call and found their bodies at their home in Habsiguda on Monday night.

The couple were discovered in separate rooms, while their children, Vishwan Reddy and Shrita Reddy were found in their respective bedrooms. A preliminary police investigation suggests that the parents strangled their children before hanging themselves.

Vishwan, a Class V student, and Shrita, who was in Class IX, had their entire futures ahead of them. But their lives were tragically cut short by their parents' despair.

Both Mr Reddy and Ms Kavitha hailed from Kalwakurthy in Telangana and had relatives in Hyderabad. The incident shows the harsh reality of financial struggles and the severe mental toll of prolonged unemployment, which continues to affect countless families across India.

Their bodies have been sent to Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem examinations, while police continue their investigation into the case.
