Indore has once again won the title of India’s cleanest city for the eighth year in a row. Surat came second in the Central government's cleanliness survey. The results were announced today under the 'Swachh Survekshan 2024-25.'

President Droupadi Murmu gave away the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 Awards at a special event held at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi. The event was organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).

As per the government, the main aim of the Swachh Survekshan mission is “to encourage large-scale citizen participation and create awareness among all sections of society about the importance of working together towards making towns and cities better places to live in.”

This was the 9th edition of the Swachh Survekshan. The survey covered over 4,500 cities and used “10 well-defined parameters with 54 indicators” to judge cleanliness, waste management, and service delivery.

This awards ceremony has been an annual feature since 2016, organised under the Centre’s Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. It is promoted by the government as the world’s largest urban sanitation and cleanliness survey.

The Centre said the 2024-25 survey used a “smart, structured approach to assess urban cleanliness.”
