A special maintenance depot for Vande Bharat trains is being built at Bhagat Ki Kothi in Jodhpur Railway Division. A senior railway officer said this is the first such depot in the country.Jodhpur Divisional Railway Manager Anurag Tripathi said the depot will service Vande Bharat trains from across India. It will be 600 meters long and have three pit lines, allowing maintenance of three trains at the same time.
In total, four such depots are planned in the country, but this is the first one to start construction.Tripathi also said the depot is expected to be ready by the end of 2025. A proposal has also been sent to build a workshop and a training centre near the depot.
A railway official said that new staff for the Vande Bharat depot will be hired through the Railway Recruitment Board, followed by training and posting. He also shared that a ₹200 crore project has been proposed to build a workshop and training centre near the depot. Once approved, tenders will be issued and work will begin. The maintenance depot is expected to be ready by the end of this year, while the workshop and training centre will take more time but progress quickly once started.
The Vande Bharat Express is seen as the future of Indian Railways, showcasing innovation, self-reliance, and sustainable development. The first Vande Bharat train was launched on February 15, 2019, on the New Delhi-Kanpur-Allahabad-Varanasi route. It runs at a speed of 160 km/h. These trains are also helping improve maintenance technology and boost the performance of railway assets and staff.
