Indian Railways has partnered with Indofast Energy to establish advanced battery swapping stations at major railway hubs in Hyderabad and Secunderabad. This initiative aims to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and promote faster, cleaner, and more sustainable urban mobility.
Currently, 80 battery swapping stations have already been installed across 25 railway stations, 56 under the Secunderabad division and 24 under Hyderabad. The expansion is far from over, as another 40 stations are expected to be added within the next three months.

These battery swapping stations offer a major advantage for EV users, especially last-mile delivery personnel and daily commuters. Instead of waiting for their vehicle to recharge, users can simply swap their drained battery for a fully charged one, saving time and eliminating range anxiety. This model supports India’s push towards a cleaner energy future.
The initiative is being led by South Central Railway, while Indofast Energy, a joint venture between IndianOil and SUN Mobility, is handling the execution and management of the stations. Indofast plans to deploy over 10,000 battery swapping stations across 40 cities in the next three years, aiming to support over a million EV users nationwide.
Speaking on the development, Anant Badjatya, CEO of Indofast Energy, said, “The growing demand reflects the urgent need for accessible, sustainable mobility. We’re proud to partner with Indian Railways to help shape a greener future, one swift battery swap at a time."
Echoing this sentiment, Shri R Gopalakrishnan from South Central Railway stated, “Installing battery swapping stations at railway premises enhances last-mile connectivity and reduces pollution around station zones. This aligns with Railway Board guidelines on promoting e-mobility and showcases the power of public-private collaboration." For EV riders and delivery workers, this initiative means fewer delays and a more convenient commute, just swap and go.
