Shashi Tharoor, who is in Washington, DC to share India’s strong stand against terrorism, denied Donald Trump’s claim that he was helping India and Pakistan.Tharoor said India never asked anyone to help in the conflict. He also said that on May 10, Pakistan asked India to stop its attacks after seeing the damage caused by India’s strikes.
Tharoor said, “We respect the American President, but we have never asked anyone to mediate.” He spoke about this when asked about Rahul Gandhi’s recent comment and Trump’s claims.
About India’s ‘Operation Sindoor’ against terror targets in Pakistan, Tharoor said, “On the last night of the conflict, India hit 11 Pakistani military airfields.” Tharoor said that public satellite images show a lot of damage in Pakistan, like big holes in runways and bombed military centres. He also talked about a secret Pakistani report that became public. It showed more damage than Pakistan first said. Tharoor said, “Pakistan admitted that Indian strikes were spread across the country, from Hyderabad in the south to Peshawar in the northwest.”
He added, “Even if Pakistan thought they hurt India, it was not enough to stop India from causing big damage in Pakistan. That’s why they asked us to stop, and we agreed.”When asked about the US role in talks between India and Pakistan, Tharoor said, “The US knows India’s clear position will not have talks while someone is threatening us with weapons.”
Shashi Tharoor said, “We can talk to Pakistan. I joked that we can speak all the languages they speak and are happy to talk in any of them.”He warned that India would act again if Pakistan did not stop terrorists in their country.
Tharoor said the group from India is in the US to explain India’s position and clear up any confusion. He said the group only wants to share India’s side and does not want other countries to take any action, just to understand India’s view.
The group came to the US after visiting Brazil. They want to tell important people in the US about ‘Operation Sindoor.’ This was India’s strong response on May 7 after a terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22. The attack, done by terrorists supported by Pakistan, killed 26 people and hurt many others.
