Shahdara District Police arrested three men allegedly involved in a series of armed robberies that took place across different parts of Delhi in a single night. The arrests were made after two emergency calls were received on May 31 from the Jagatpuri and Geeta Colony areas, where victims reported being held at gunpoint by a group of four men on motorcycles.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sharik alias Kalia, Shabir alias Faheem, and Saurav alias Manoj alias Micky. All three are residents of New Seelampur and nearby localities.
According to officials, the gang used two high-end stolen motorcycles, a KTM Duke and a Bajaj Dominar- to carry out the crimes. One of the bikes had a fake number plate to avoid being tracked. Police say the gang used these stolen bikes to target people out late at night, mainly in less crowded areas.
What’s more shocking is that by day, the gang members worked as auto-rickshaw drivers. To avoid getting noticed, they would leave the stolen bikes parked in Daryaganj during the day and move around in rented autos. Once night fell, they would return to retrieve the bikes and start their robberies.
The investigation picked up speed when police started going through CCTV footage from different spots in the city. One of the bikes was traced to a person in Bhalaswa, who had sold it to someone named Vinay. Vinay, in turn, had sold it to a man named Rishav. Rishav told police he had been robbed of the bike at gunpoint in Nehru Nagar on May 29, a case that had already been reported at Lajpat Nagar police station.
Police then received information from an informer who described a gang using similar methods and a white bike. Officers checked multiple addresses and eventually laid a trap. By early morning, three of the suspects were in custody. The fourth, identified as Shahzad, is still missing.
During the arrest, police recovered several stolen items, including the KTM Duke and Bajaj Dominar bikes, a country-made pistol loaded with a live cartridge, a fake lighter-shaped pistol, a knife, and tools used to break bike locks. Officers also found two mobile phones, including an iPhone, and ₹6,400 in cash.
Sharik, believed to be the gang’s leader, has a long criminal record with over 45 cases registered against him. His associates Shabir and Saurav have at least 12 cases each, mainly involving robbery and snatching.
Speaking about the arrests, DCP Shahdara Prashant Gautam said, “The gang relied on their day jobs and street knowledge to avoid CCTV detection and law enforcement attention.” He added that the group had also learned various tricks from their time in jail.
Police are now on the lookout for the fourth suspect and are continuing their investigation to uncover more possible crimes linked to the group.
