The Meteorological Centre has predicted extremely heavy to very heavy rains across Uttarakhand for the next two days, prompting red and orange alerts for multiple districts.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday directed officials to remain alert round the clock.

For Monday, red alerts have been issued in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, and Haridwar, forecasting extremely heavy rain in some areas and heavy to very heavy rain in others. On September 2, orange alerts cover Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, and Bageshwar, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Schools have been closed in several districts, including Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, and Champawat, to ensure student safety.

In a meeting with senior officials, CM Dhami said the coming days will be challenging and asked for all necessary steps to protect residents. He instructed State Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman to monitor the situation from the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) due to the high risk of landslides and waterlogging.

Dhami also reviewed ongoing relief and rescue operations, directing commissioners of Garhwal and Kumaon divisions to speed up rehabilitation efforts. He emphasized close monitoring of river water levels, even at night.

Two youths, including a woman, died on Sunday in Tehri district when stones hit their two-wheeler on the Rishikesh-Gangotri National Highway near Narendranagar. They were identified as Ankit Jain (25) from Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajni Rawat from Kotdwar, Pauri district, police said.

The SEOC also reported that the body of a man missing since Saturday in Munsiyari, Pithoragarh district, was found near Leti Chalthi Barsaati Nala. The deceased was identified as Ramesh Ram.

Another body was recovered from debris caused by a landslide in Pausari village, Bageshwar district. Two people remain missing from the incident.
