After the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, India has carried out strong military action against terrorist camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). In the early hours of Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the Indian armed forces launched missile strikes on nine terror targets, including the main bases of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

The operation, named Operation Sindoor, was planned secretly and executed quickly. According to the press briefing by the Centre, the Indian forces targeted places where terrorists were being trained, given weapons, and sent into India to carry out attacks.

Targets in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK)

Five terror camps were hit in PoK:

  1. Sawai Nala camp in Muzaffarabad – A training centre for LeT. Terrorists who attacked Sonmarg (October 20, 2024), Gulmarg (October 24, 2024), and Pahalgam (April 22, 2025) were trained here.
  2. Syedna Bilal Camp in Muzaffarabad – A Jaish-e-Mohammad staging area, also used for training in weapons, explosives, and jungle survival.
  3. Gulpur camp in Kotli – A base of LeT. Terrorists trained here carried out attacks in Poonch on April 20, 2023, and June 9, 2024.
  4. Barnala camp in Bhimber – Another training centre for weapons handling, explosives, and survival skills.
  5. Abbas camp in Kotli – This was where fidayeen (suicide attackers) of LeT were trained. It could train up to 15 terrorists at a time.

Targets in Pakistan

Four key locations were struck inside Pakistan:

  1. Sarjal camp in Sialkot – Terrorists trained here killed four J&K police personnel in March 2025.
  2. Mehmoona Joya camp in Sialkot – The Pathankot air force base attack was planned and launched from this site.
  3. Markaz Taiba camp in Muridke – The training centre where 2008 Mumbai attack terrorists, including Ajmal Kasab and David Headley, were trained.
  4. Markaz Subhanallah in Bahawalpur – This is the headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammad, where terrorists were recruited, trained, and brainwashed.
