A man was killed after two compartments of the Tatanagar–Ernakulam Express caught fire at Yalamanchili, about 66 km from Visakhapatnam, a senior police official said on Monday.

The official said information about the fire was received at around 12:45 am.

According to the police, there were 82 passengers in one affected coach and 76 in the other at the time of the incident. “Unfortunately, a dead body was found in the B1 coach,” the official told reporters.

The deceased was identified as Chandrasekhar Sundaram.

The two damaged coaches were later detached from the train, which then proceeded towards Ernakulam. Passengers from the affected coaches will be transported to their respective destinations through alternative arrangements, officials said.

Two forensic teams are examining the site to ascertain the cause of the fire.
