A seven-year-old girl named Bhoomika was pushed into a canal and killed by her own father in Gujarat’s Kheda district, according to a shocking confession made by her mother, Anjana Solanki. At first, the case was treated as an accident, but later the truth came out when Anjana told the police what had really happened.
The tragic incident took place on June 10. That day, Vijay Solanki, his wife, Anjana, and their elder daughter, Bhoomika, left home on a two-wheeler to visit a local temple. On their way back, Anjana told Vijay she wanted to visit her parents. But Vijay refused and said, "I wanted a boy, and you gave birth to a girl."
Soon after, at around 8pm, Vijay stopped the bike on the Waghavat bridge in Kapadvanj. There, he pushed Bhoomika into the fast-flowing Narmada canal. Anjana was in shock and could not believe what had just happened. Later, her husband threatened her with divorce if she told anyone about the incident. He then dropped her at her parents’ home.
‘He said he was showing her some fishes’
At first, the couple told police that Bhoomika had slipped and fallen into the canal while watching fishes. According to Kheda District SP Rajesh Gadhiya, a case of accidental death was registered by the Antarasuba police.
Police started looking for clues and soon found Bhoomika’s slippers and her body in the canal. As the investigation moved forward, officers began to suspect something was wrong. They spoke to family members, and eventually, Anjana broke down and confessed. She also took police to the spot where the crime happened.
Speaking to reporters while crying, Anjana said, "My husband made Bhoomika stand on the banks of the canal without my knowledge. He said he was showing her some fishes but pushed her straight into the canal. Before I could understand anything, Bhoomika fell into the canal, and I stood there helpless."
She added that she couldn’t sleep the entire night after what had happened.
‘He always wanted a son’
Anjana told the police that Vijay was unhappy because they had two daughters. They often fought about it. Anjana even went to her parents’ house many times, but Vijay would come and convince her to return. She said he started torturing her after the birth of their second daughter, who is now just three years old.
She also said that Vijay forced her to lie to the police by saying Bhoomika slipped into the canal while watching fishes.
Police have now arrested Vijay based on Anjana’s complaint. SP Gadhiya said, "Our investigation is underway. We are probing all angles, including superstition."
